Bury v Brentford
Saturday, 01 September 2007 - 3:00pm
Coca Cola League Two

Bury: Chris Casper has told his players it is high time they gave the Gigg Lane faithful something to get excited about.

With Brentford the visitors on Saturday, the Bury boss wants to finally rid himself of the dreadful home form tag which has dogged his side since the turn of the year.

There were definite signs of improvement in the second half against Grimsby just under a fortnight ago, but Casper wants his side to improve on the point they earned that day against the Mariners.

"We haven't done anything drastically different to prepare for this one, but we need to start giving our fans something to shout about," he admitted. "We need to get the atmosphere going from the off, and get some momentum going.

"That has got to start with the players. They have to take the responsibility."

Defeat at Wycombe last week has left the Shakers in mid-table, a point behind Brentford, who are still unbeaten in the league this season.

Terry Butcher has strengthened his side with several loan players from the Premiership and Championship, and although Casper concedes the Bees will probably be plying their trade at the top of League Two come May, he is confident of causing an early season upset.

"The clubs who come down from League One are always pretty strong, but we are at home and it is about time we made that count," he said.

"They've got a lot of new players, but we played as well as we ever have against Grimsby in the second half last time we were at home, and we need to do something similar again."

Should Andy Bishop start the game on Saturday, then the Shakers leading scorer will have started fifty games for Bury, with 22 goals already under his belt, a strike rate 0.44 goals per game or in layman's terms - just about a goal every other game. Bishop wants to improve that though, his target for the season is 25, should Glynn Hurst raise his own target - then Bish will raise his again - the competition between the pair is that strong.

Aaron Grundy is the only player currently receiving treatment from Alan Bent, whilst Marcus Richardson left the club on Friday morning and maybe about to link up with Tommy Taylor and Boston united.

The home form hasn't been so good in recent months, but the performance against Grimsby - especially the second half performance - has to be repeated from the start of the game, get the performance - get the result. Chances must be turned into goals and the manager has already appealed for the fans to play their part by creating the atmosphere.

Three points should come Bury's way on Saturday - but the lads are going to have to work for it.

Form Guide - Bury: One of each for the Shakers in league action, won at MK Dons (2-1), drew at home with Grimsby (1-1) and lost 1-0 at Wycombe on Saturday. The phrase 'concentrating on the league' applies to the Carling Cup after a 1-0 defeat at Gigg Lane to Carlisle United in the first round.

Form Guide - Brentford: Terry Butcher's Bee's are undefeated in the league so far, they started with a 1-1 draw with Mansfield Town at Griffin Park, drew 0-0 at Meadow Lane and won their last game at home (2-1) against Barnet. Brentford are also 'concentrating on the league' after they lost their first round Carling Cup game 3-0 at home to Bristol City.

The Referee: Saturdays referee is Mr. Carl Boyeson, who so far this season has taken charge of two games. The ref has shown just the one yellow card this season.

The last time he took charge of a Bury game was January this year, the Bury v Lincoln 2-2 draw, with one yellow card being shown. Mr Boyeson was also in charge of the Shakers 3-2 win at Macclesfield Town in October 06.

November 2004 was the last time he took charge of a Brentford game when they visited the Galpharm Stadium for a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town.

Last Meeting: April Fools day 2004 was no joke for Chris Billy. Ceebs hit two second half strikes to hand the Shakers a 2-0 win over Brentford at Gigg Lane. One goal, his first, went on to become the clubs goal of the season with a fine 25 yard strike to kill the Bee's off. Click here to view the match report from that game
